Smoky Skies in Pemberton

Posted on September 02, 2025

Smoke from wildfires burning nearby is affecting air quality in Pemberton. We want to reassure residents that there is no immediate wildfire threat to the community.

However, wildfire smoke can be harmful to everyone, especially seniors, children, and those with existing health conditions. Here are a few steps you can take to protect yourself and those around you:

Tips to Stay Safe During Smoky Conditions

  • Stay indoors and keep the air clean (close windows and doors, avoid burning fireplaces, candles, or incense, and avoid vacuuming)
  • In vehicles, keep windows closed and set air conditioning to recirculate
  • Limit outdoor activities and avoid strenuous exercise
  • Spend time in places with filtered air, such as stores, the library, or the community centre
  • Check the BC Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) regularly

Free N95 Respirator Masks Available

Thanks to the Canadian Red Cross, the Pemberton & District Community Centre is distributing free N95 respirator masks. These masks provide stronger protection against fine smoke particles than regular or cloth masks and are especially helpful for those with respiratory conditions, seniors, children, or anyone experiencing discomfort.

  • Location: Pemberton & District Community Centre, 7390 Cottonwood Street
  • Hours: Monday–Friday 6:00am–9:00pm | Saturday 8:00am–5:00pm

Stay informed and take steps to minimize exposure. Please also remember to check in on friends, family, and neighbours who may need extra support during smoky conditions.
