Message from Mayor Richman | August 14, 2020

Posted on August 14, 2020

Hello everyone,

Like you, we’ve heard concerns in the community regarding local transmission of COVID-19, especially in the last 24 hours.   I felt it was important to acknowledge your concerns and share what we know.

I can tell you that it’s not part of Vancouver Coastal Health’s procedure to advise local governments if there is a case locally.   The consistent messaging we get from them is that everyone is to assume it’s in every local community and to act accordingly.   While I do find this somewhat challenging, I do understand the importance of preserving the privacy of anyone who is confirmed to be positive.

I do know that Vancouver Coastal Health has a vigorous and extensive contact tracing plan, which enables them to quickly reach those who may have been exposed to a positive case, in an effort to limit and extinguish transmission as quickly as possible.

With the current unknowns and as we move into the last days of summer, I ask you, please remain calm, avoid sharing unconfirmed information and continue to act with kindness.

I also know that more than ever, it’s so important that we RECOMMIT to our foundation that slows the transmission of COVID-19 which is washing our hands frequently, keeping our bubble small, wearing a mask when we can’t physically distance and staying home when we are unwell.

If you have any questions or want to chat, never hesitate to reach out to me.  I can be reached at mrichman@pemberton.ca or 604.966.6309.

Please have a safe weekend.
