National Indigenous Peoples Day

Posted on June 21, 2023

Today, Indigenous Peoples Day we celebrate the rich culture and wisdom of the L̓il̓wat7úl on whose unceded territory we are on. The Village of Pemberton lies completely within the traditional territory of the Líl̓wat Nation and recognizes that the Líl̓wat Nation has inherent aboriginal rights and aboriginal title to all lands within its traditional territory.

The month of June is National Indigenous History Month, a month designated for all Canadians to pay tribute the cultures and the contributions of Indigenous Peoples in Canada. We encourage you to visit the Squamish Líl̓wat Cultural Centre Whistler who throughout the month of June are showcasing the spirit of the Líl̓wat7úl and Skw̲xw̲ú7mesh peoples.
