Message from Mayor Richman Regarding COVID-19

Posted on March 14, 2020

We know there is a high-level concern in the Community regarding the COVID-19, particularly regarding local preparedness and the recent announcement of local cases.

To date, we have met with our extraordinary health providers at the Pemberton Medical Clinic to lend our support and we continue to follow the recommendations from Vancouver Coastal Health and the BC Centre for Disease Control.

Vancouver Coastal Health and the Province affirms that the risk remains low, but it is increasing.   We have been assured that all of the positive cases identified in B.C. have been isolated.

We are a resilient community. Preparation, not panic, is key.   It’s our job to prepare and plan for all scenarios from best to worse, short term and long term.  Any decisions we make have the best interest of the community in mind, as well as the economical effects it has on our businesses, their Staff and families.

The closing of the Pemberton and District Community Centre is one precautionary measure to keep our community members and the Centre’s Staff safe.   This is not a finite closure, and we will be re-evaluating this preventative action on a daily basis.   Be sure to watch our website and Facebook Page for updates.

I want to assure you that in these coming weeks I will continue to work with our local medical professionals, Health Authority and the Province and we will provide timely updates.

Please continue to exercise good hygiene habits and adequate distancing.  Be good neighbours, check on our at-risk and elderly family and friends.    Our Community spirit will not be stifled by this illness.

Let's look after each other,
Mike
