VILLAGE OF PEMBERTON RECEIVES GIFTED LAND FROM THE DEN DUYF FAMILY
Lands to Be Used for Recreation Amenities

PEMBERTON, BC – As of Thursday, June 22, 2017, the Village of Pemberton became the new owner of a 20-acre parcel of land off of Pemberton Farm Road East, thanks to the generous donation from the Den Duyf Family.

Zoned for the purposes of recreation and parks use, the lands have been gifted by the Den Duyf Family for the future development of a recreation centre and soccer fields.

“We are pleased to see Mom and Dad’s donation for recreation development for the benefit of all Pemberton, Area C and Lil’wat Nation community members,” said Joanne Molinaro.  “Dad (Art Den Duyf) felt that the site being developed for recreation is critical to Pemberton and the surrounding communities success.  We look forward to seeing collaboration amongst the communities to fully realize our Dad’s vision.”

Situated beneath the picturesque Mt. Currie, the site is located adjacent to the Friendship Trail, a 7.2-kilometre multi-use trail that will connect the communities of Lil’wat Nation, SLRD Area C and the Village of Pemberton.

“This generous contribution will be an incredible asset to the Village and the entire area,” says Mayor Mike Richman.  “We are grateful to the Den Duyf Family.  We hope to create a recreation legacy that Art [Den Duyf] would be proud of.”

The site recently received preload and fill from The Ridge Development, via Community Amenity Contributions (CAC).  CACs are voluntary in-kind or cash contribution provided by property developers through rezoning.

Site preparation works currently underway on the donated lands will facilitate the future development of soccer fields. The Village is actively seeking funding through grants to supplement the capital costs of the fields as well as other recreation site amenities as identified during the recreation planning in 2013.

The Village of Pemberton will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Den Duyf Family, on Tuesday, September 19th at 4:30pm on the recreations lands, located on the East side of Pemberton Farm Road East.
