The Subaru IRONMAN Canada triathlon event was first awarded to the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) in 2012 for a period of five (5) years. The RMOW is now considering the option to renew the event for another five (5) years, which would see the yearly return of the event from 2018 until 2023.
In order to gain a better understanding of the IRONMAN event, from the community’s perspective, a survey was initiated, as well as to understand the benefits and effects the triathlon has on the community as a whole. The survey was circulated via the Village website, Facebook and eNews, and was shared with both the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District and Lil’wat Nation.
The survey was launched on April 21, 2017 and closed on May 3, 2017. We received 369 responses, 201 from residents of the Village of Pemberton, 57 from SLRD Area C, 92 from the Pemberton Meadows, 7 from Lil’wat Nation and 12 from other locations.
