WHAT IS AN OFFICIAL COMMUNITY PLAN (OCP)?

  • A local bylaw, prepared and adopted within the statutory provisions of theOCP Cover Local Government Act;
  • Statements of objectives and policies to guide; decisions on planning and land use management;
  • The OCP must include statements and map designations related to anticipated housing needs, and the following land uses: commercial, industrial, institutional, agricultural, recreational, public utility, sand and gravel deposits, hazardous or environmentally sensitive lands, major road and servicing systems, and public facilities;
  • The OCP must also include policies related to affordable housing, rental housing and special needs housing as well as include targets to greenhouse gas emissions for the area covered by the plan;
  • It is intended to reflect a broad community consensus of opinion for the future development and growth of the community over a five to ten year period.

OFFICIAL COMMUNITY PLAN NOW AVAILABLE FOR COMMENT

December 2010 Update - The Village of Pemberton is please to release their new Official Community Plan.  The document is the fundamental policy document that will guide the community's decision related to planning and land use management.

At this time the Official Community Plan (OCP) is at the first step in the statutorily required public consultation process.  Mayor and Council gave first reading to the document on December 14, 2010, which has set the stage for a comprehensive community and stakeholder review.

The Village welcomes comments on the content of the OCP to be incorporated into the final document.  The consultation period will take a minimum of 60 days, leading to the OCP Bylaw's public hearing in late February or early March 2011.
